We went through a few boxes today and found a cardboard money box Alex made sometime in Primary School (you can just see his name written on the side in pen - 'Alexander').
We cracked it open and it was like finding treasure for us as there were two $2 notes inside AND two 1c coins and a 2c coin!
A quick Google search later as we couldn't remember, the 1c & 2c coins were withdrawn and discontinued in 1991 and the $2 note was replaced by the $2 coin in 1988...which after reading the Wiki about the Australian currency both had Alex and I "duh-ing" out loud as it made sense that it coincided with the Bicentenary.
I have no idea what we're going to do with the 1c & 2c coins and $2 notes though!
